Pembroke names new city clerk

With little fanfare but one long oath of office, Pembroke City Council on Monday named Cathy Rushing as the new city clerk.

Rushing, who was sworn in by city attorney Dana Braun, spent the last decade working with the Bulloch County Board of Education. She also spent 15 years as Springfield city clerk.

She replaces Sharroll Fanslau, who was let go by the city in October after being placed on administrative leave in August.

Rushing, who was born in Bulloch County and grew up in Savannah, said she started her career in banking before going to work for Springfield. She said she’s been married to Carl Rushing for years and they have three children and eight grandchildren.

“I am so excited about this new chapter in my life,” Rushing said. “The mayor, city council and employees of the city of Pembroke have welcomed me, and I look forward to working with them and working for the residents of Pembroke.”
