Obama to visit Georgia's Fort Stewart on Friday

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama are planning a visit to Georgia'sFort Stewarton Friday.

The Savannah Morning News reports (http://bit.ly/I07tcy ) that the White House announced that the president and first lady will meet with troops, veterans and military families.

Savannah Democratic state Sen. Lester Jackson says he wasn't told of the president's visit, but thinks it's fitting he would honor the service members stationed at thefort.

The newspaper reports that when Obama was in Georgia last month he raised more than $1 million in Atlanta for his re-election campaign.

Fort Stewartis the largest Army installation east of the Mississippi River and a major launch pad for U.S. military actions in Iraq and Afghanistan.
