At least four Richmond Hill businesses and organizations are taking part in a fundraiser and food drive to help U.S. Coast Guard families affected by the partial government shutdown.
Those who would like to donate goods, including gift cards, non-perishable items, diapers, baby wipes, gas cards, baked goods, child care and personal hygiene items can visit the drop boxes at these locations:

Other known organizations accepting donations include Tybee Island City Hall, American Legions, Savannah Navy League, VFWs, The Low Country Coast Guard CPOA and the USO.
The above organizations are working with The Oath, a non-profit veterans organization, who said "as a community we can lessen the negative impact this situation is having on the U.S. Coast Guard members and their families."
They are asking those who want to provide money to write checks made out to the Air Station Morale Fund. These checks will be put into the Air Station Morale Fund and distributed among the enlisted members. All of the donations received, the group said, will be transported to the U.S. Coast Guard station in Savannah, Some of the donations will also go to others who are affected by this shut down.
