The Richmond Hill YMCA kicked off an expansion campaign Thursday to raise money for its 4,000 square foot addition Thursday.
The total cost of the project is $170,00 and Randy Bugos, the president and CEO of the YMCA of Costal Georgia, said the corporate office would front the cost of the construction but the Y would rely on the community’s donations to pay them back.
The expansion will include a 1200 square foot multi-purpose room, a dedicated 600 square foot spin room, a 1600 square foot expansion of current free weight area, and a 600 square foot expansion of the current aerobics room, according to a flyer from the Y.
Bugos said the additions are “based on member surveys, its all member driven.”
The South State Bank gave a challenge gift of $50,00 to they Y, where they will match dollar-to-dollar donations until $50,000 is raised.
“We love giving back to the community and the Y offers incredible opportunities to that community, so it’s a perfect fit for us,” said Jon Seagraves of South State Bank.
Mayor Harold Fowler and Jimmy Burnsed, chairman of the Bryan County commissioners, spoke.
Nick Batzig from New Covenant Presbyterian Church gave the opening prayer.
