Chase Burmester, a senior at Richmond Hill High School, and Cody Walker, an eighth-grader at Richmond Hill Middle School, were recently awarded scholarships from the Alan Morris Music for Youth Fund, according to a news release.

The students were selected among several applicants from the schools based on their musical achievements and goals for careers in music.

The fund was established in August 2014 following the death of Morris, a Richmond Hill resident and professional musician who performed with the Savannah Jazz Orchestra and the Sapphire Bullets of Pure Love as well as a private music teacher who was involved with local band student activities, according to his obituary.

“Alan’s passionate belief that music enriched the lives and education of our youth was evident in his dedication to and his involvement with the children of this community,” according to the release.

The First Bank of Coastal Georgia assisted in the management of the fund.
