Runoff is Tuesday
After weeks of early voting, there's still some business to take care of

A handful of runoffs will be decided Tuesday as voters head to the polls. How many voters will vote is anybody’s guess.
As of noon Friday, only 811 of Bryan County’s estimated 20,000 registered voters had cast ballots after three weeks of early voting, according to Bryan County Elections Supervisor Cindy Reynolds.
“It’s been slow,” she said, as her office prepared for Tuesday’s runoff between candidates vying for seats in the U.S. House and Senate.
It was slow in the primary in May as well. Turnout was less than 10 percent of the count’s registered voters.
Those who cast ballots in the primary will have to vote for a candidate in the same party Tuesday.
Voters who didn’t vote in the primary are still eligible to vote in the runoff and can vote for candidates in either party.
Among the high profile races are those between state Sen. Buddy Carter and Dr. Bob Johnson for the Republican nomination for the First Congressional District seat, a race which also includes a runoff between Amy Tavio, a Richmond Hill business woman, and Savannah’s Brian Reese to be the Democrats’ candidate in the general election in November.
Current District 1 Congressman Jack Kingston (R-Savannah) is involved in a runoff with David Perdue for the Republican nomination to face Democrat Michelle Nunn in November for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Saxby Chambliss, who is retiring.
There’s also a runoff between Republicans Mike Buck and Richard Woods and Democrats Alisha Thomas Morgan and Valarie Wilson for state school superintendent.
All of Bryan County’s 10 precincts will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday and voters are required to show voter ID.
Sample ballots will be available at the polls, but voters are also encouraged to visit the My Voter Page at to see sample ballots, their precinct and other information.
