The Richmond Hill's Planning and Zoning Commission voted 3-0 during a public hearing Monday against recommending approval of the proposed Colonial Marsh development near Sterling Creek Plantation.
The vote drew applause from several Sterling Creek Plantation residents at the hearing. Some have been fighting the development since 2006.
In October, Richmond Hill City Council denied ordinance changes sought by Colonial Marsh developer RVLH-Greenland. Opponents say the development will cause more traffic and create safety issues on Harris Trail Road near both Richmond Hill middle and high schools and in Sterling Creek Plantation.
