RHRA switches to advisory committee

The Richmond Hill Recreation Association will now be known as the Richmond Hill Recreation Advisory Committee following a change in the organization’s charter that was approved Aug. 9 by county commissioners.

The switch allows the new Richmond Hill Recreation Advisory Committee (RHRAC) to transition administrative duties back to the county, according to RHRA/AC president David Minning, who said the change has been in the works for about three years and is simply an “orderly transition” into a partnership with the county.

“It’s not that they (the county) are taking over, it’s not that kind of situation at all,” Minning said. “It really was a takeover of the administrative issues and allows people in sports to focus more on sports themselves.”

The RHRAC will do more to assist the county with the recreation department with things like facilities and the next phase in DeVaul Henderson Park, he said.

“We’re the customers and we want to make sure when taxpayer money is spent for the new facility that we’re a sounding board for (taxpayers),” Minning said. “If citizens have a suggestion or something they want to see at the park, they have a body to come to.”
