Municipal qualifying now under way
Four seek two seats in Richmond Hill; two running for election in Pembroke

Qualifying for municipal elections in Pembroke and Richmond Hill began Monday, and several newcomers and incumbents have already qualified.

As of Tuesday, only two new candidates qualified for elections in Pembroke, while Richmond Hill’s two incumbents and two challengers had qualified in that city.

In Pembroke, Mary Warnell qualified for the mayoral seat, while Kim McGhee qualified for the District 2 seat, currently held by Doug Kangeter.

According to Richmond Hill City Clerk Ursula Lee, City Council members Jimmy Hires and Marilyn Hodges, who represent posts 3 and 4, respectively, qualified Monday, as did political newcomers John Fesperman and Jan Bass.
