Trees provide economic, environmental and health benefits to many cities and counties in Georgia.

To meet the changing and growing needs of these areas, the Georgia Forestry Commission is holding a Tree Risk Management Workshop to educate community leaders on how to properly maintain existing trees via a urban forestry program.

Consultant Mark Duntemann, founder  of Natural Path Urban Forestry, will lead the workshop. Topics on the agenda include:

• Insights on how a healthy, sustainable urban forest benefits a community;

• Guidance on developing practical tree risk management strategies; and

• New standards for proper management of urban tree canopies.

The commission has adopted standards for proper management of urban tree canopies, and these will be shared at the workshop.

The workshop is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Coastal Electric Cooperative,   1265  S.  Coastal Highway, Midway.  To register, go to www.georgiaarborist.org.
