Ted Cruz won a tight three-way race with Marco Rubio and Donald Trump during a straw poll of Republican presidential candidates at a Bryan County Republican Party membership-drive event Thursday at Love’s Seafood Restaurant.
Cruz got 19 percent of the vote, Rubio received 17 percent, and Trump claimed 16 percent.
Dr. Ben Carson was fourth with 5 percent, John Kasich was sixth with 2 percent, and Jeb Bush, Carly Fiorina and Chris Christie each received 1 percent. Six percent of the voters were undecided.
Bryan County GOP Chairman Russ Carpenter said 101 people voted in the straw poll.
Georgia’s presidential primaries are March 1.
