The city of Richmond Hill will soon be on the hunt for someone to lead the Planning and Zoning Department after Planning and Zoning Director Steve Scholar announced his retirement Monday.
Scholar, 61, has worked with the city since June 2000. He said he decided to retire to spend time with family and has plans to try out a different line of work, although he isn’t sure what that is just yet.
“I just thought it was probably time to do some other things,” Scholar said. “I’ve enjoyed my time with the city.”
Scholar, who is also retired from the military, has lived in Richmond Hill since 1994. He said this is his home and he plans to stay here.
“I think we’re going to travel a little, spend time with my grandkids. And I’ll be employed somewhere, but I’ll take a little time off first,” he said. “I’ll probably volunteer at local nonprofits — I certainly want to keep my hands involved in the community.”
Scholar said he has enjoyed working with the city.
“It’s been a pleasure working for the city, and I think we’ve accomplished a lot of good things — and a lot of good things will continue to be accomplished,” he said. “It’s been a good time for me for sure.”
