Cities to celebrate National Night Out

Both ends of the county are gearing up to celebrate community and promote crime and drug prevention awareness with National Night Out events in Pembroke and Richmond Hill.

Festivities will be from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday – on Railroad Street in downtown Pembroke and in J.F. Gregory Park in Richmond Hill.

The event in Pembroke, hosted by the Pembroke Police Department, will include free hot dogs and drinks, safety displays, local entertainment, informational booths, a unity walk and moonwalk, snow cones and popcorn, free balloons, free school supplies and much more.

The event in Richmond Hill, hosted by the Richmond Hill Police Department, will include live entertainment, including the band Liquid Ginger, Cesar Arocha of the athletes ministry Team Impact and more. There will also be free rides and games, free hot dogs and drinks, a hot dog eating contest, martial arts demonstrations, classic car show, and more.

National Night Out is a crime/drug prevention event designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for and participation in local anticrime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
