Gov. Sonny Perdue will be making a special guest appearance here Monday night when he joins the Richmond Hill-Bryan County Chamber of Commerce for its 25th anniversary dinner at the Richmond Hill City Center.
County Commissioner Toby Roberts invited the governor to serve as guest speaker for the chamber event, which begins at 6 p.m. He said having Perdue accept is an honor for the county.
“For him to come down to speak at this occasion is quite a big deal for all of us, and he’s gracious enough to make his time available to be our guest speaker,” Roberts said.
But the chamber dinner won’t be the only thing on Perdue’s agenda while in Bryan County. Roberts said the governor will likely spend a day or two hunting turkeys.
“I guess I bribed him a little bit in inviting him to come down,” Roberts said jokingly. “(Perdue’s) an avid turkey hunter, and he was able to work (the dinner) into his schedule.
“We really consider it an honor for him to come.”
Roberts said Perdue’s visit shows that Bryan County is on the map in the governor’s eyes.
“This speaks very highly of the chamber, Richmond Hill and the county. The governor knows who we are for sure,” he said.
