As downtown program coordinator for the city of Pembroke, Tonya Raulerson stays busy planning and managing events, which often take place in Pembroke Park along the railroad tracks through the center of the city. It’s a fulltime job, and Raulerson gives it her best. There is extensive work in bringing off events, such as the Balloon Fest, which takes months of work every year. Raulerson loves it all.

"I love what I do," she said. "I’m a people person. To do this job, you need an outgoing personality. We often bring in 100 or more vendors for an event and I help to organize this, too. Sponsors and vendors are the way we finance our events."

Raulerson has done several things before she came to be Downtown Coordinator, including a 16-year stint in the Bryan County School System. She’s happy where she is and has no plans to change at this point in her life.

"I’m content where I am," she says. "This is not a controversial job. We all get along well."

Raulerson has personality traits that makes her good at her job. She is a social person who works to help others, she’s patient and she always plays with the team. Her main goal in working with the city is to give people her best in everything.

Other than her career with the city, Raulerson is a wife and mother. Being a dedicated and loving mother makes her proud, and she quickly states that her family comes first. She tries to spend every evening at home with her family.

"My working day is usually over at 5 p.m." she said.

In order to keep this busy schedule, Raulerson stays fit by exercising. She follows a walking regime and sees that she keeps physically in good shape. She also keeps an optimistic attitude and stays on good terms with others.

"I don’t stay ‘down’ for long," she said. "I’m people oriented."
