The students were voting for the first time.

 Carpenter, who is mayor of his hometown city, has been taking students in his class eligible to vote to the polls as a lesson in civics for more than a decade.

Outstanding students from across Georgia, including Olivia Tiede and Delaney Thompson of Richmond Hill, recently returned from the Washington Youth Tour, a life-changing, week-long leadership experience sponsored by Georgia’s electric cooperatives, including Coastal Electric Cooperative.
