An Ecumenical Christmas Musical was held Dec. 8 at Restoration Worship Center in Richmond Hill, which was followed by an open mic night at Chop It Up Barbershop.

The two events served as preludes to the inaugural Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade set for Jan. 19 in Richmond Hill, according to organizer Minister Johnnie Quiller, who said the parade theme, “The Dream Lives on in Peace and Unity,” was apparent in both events.

“Each event united youth with the elderly, eliminated ethnic barriers, crossed socio-economic lines and even brought together those with diverse ideologies,” he said.

The musical program was directed by Quiller and led by the Prince of Peace Choir, a collaboration of  nine local churches organized by Susie Hartford. The musical also included a Community Liturgical Dance performance led by Tiara Jones.

The next event will be the parade, which will follow the Richmond Hill Christmas Parade route and end in J.F. Gregory Park for the celebration.
