Escapee captured
Authorities allege he tried to kidnap estranged wife in Bulloch County
Thomas Todd
The man who escaped Sunday from the Bryan County Jail was arrested Friday in Bulloch County after he allegedly tried to kidnap his estranged wife.
Thomas Patrick Todd, 56, is currently being held in the Bulloch County jail and now faces multiple charges in both counties.
Before escaping, Todd was in the Bryan County Jail on a probation violation stemming from an aggravated assault charge, which authorities said included a 2004 kidnapping of his estranged wife.
Todd eluded authorities until Friday, when he resurfaced in Bulloch County and attempted to kidnap her and her ex-husband, according to Bulloch County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Gene McDaniel.
Todd allegedly detained the two victims for a brief time with a knife and a sawed-off shotgun before giving up peacefully.
"He planned to kidnap them both again and do who knows what," McDaniel said.
Authorities learned of Todd's whereabouts when his estranged wife called Bryan County authorities, who in turn contacted the Bulloch County Sheriff's Department.
