Election qualifying, early voting, this week in Bryan County

The qualifying period for candidates to appear on local primary ballots in Bryan County began Monday, and ends at noon on Friday. Also this week, early voting for the Presidential Preference Primary (separate from the aforementioned local primary) began Monday and runs until March 20.

Several individuals have announced their intention to run for office, including a long list of sheriff candidates, but their campaigns will not be official until qualifying. That election will be held on May 19.

The Presidential Preference Primary is on Tuesday, March 24 in Georgia. Saturday voting will take place on March 14.

There are two locations to vote:

*  Richmond Hill at the Bryan County Administrative Complex, 66 Captain Mathew Freeman Drive.

* Pembroke at the Bryan County Courthouse, 42 Courthouse St.

Hours for the EARLY VOTING are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday at both locations.

If you’re thinking about running for an office, here’s a list of county seats on the ballot in 2020 as well as their qualifying fees and the incumbent, if any.

Sheriff: Incumbent Clyde Smith, retiring. Qualifying fee is $1,943.28.

Probate Judge: Incumbent is Billy Reynolds. Qualifying fee is $1,591.05.

Clerk of Superior Court: Rebecca Crowe is incumbent. Qualifying fee is $1,591.05.

Tax Commissioner: Incumbent is Carroll Ann Coleman. Qualifying fee is $1,591.05.

Coroner: Bill Cox is incumbent. Qualifying fee is $484.54.

County Commission Chairman: Carter Infinger is incumbent. Qualifying fee is $285.

County Commission D-1: Noah Covington is incumbent. Qualifying fee is $255.

County Commission D-3: Steve Myers is incumbent. Qualifying fee is $255.

Board of Education Vice Chair: Karen Krupp is incumbent. Qualifying fee is $97.71.

Board of Education District 2: Dennis Seger is incumbent. Qualifying fee is $97.71 

Board of Education District 3: Derrick Smith is incumbent. Qualifying fee is $97.71.

State Court Judge: Ray C. Smith is incumbent. Qualifying fee is $3,946.18.

State Court Solicitor: Donald Lee Montgomery Jr. is incumbent. Qualifying fee is $2,228.36.
