In a closer-than-anticipated count, participating voters across Bryan County rejected the Education 1% Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, known colloquially as ESPLOST.

With 100% of precincts reporting, 1894 voters voted “no” on the resolution, which would have allowed a one-percent sales tax across the county to fund capital projects related to public school education.

Just 35 votes separated the “no” from the “yes” votes, with approximately 11.04% of registered Bryan County voters turning out to vote at all--whether through Early Voting/Absentee, or on Election Day.

This result sets Bryan County apart from neighboring counties Bulloch, Chatham, and Liberty, who all passed their respective sales tax measures on Election Day Tuesday.
