County Commissioners on Tuesday approved contracts to continue repairs at Hendrix Park caused by the April 5 tornado that killed one person while damaging a number of homes, businesses and county facilities.
In all, some $606,000 in repairs and improvements at the baseball and softball fields at the park in Black Creek were approved by commissioners at their Tuesday night meeting at the South Bryan Administration Building.
Belfor Property Restoration is handling the repairs. Officials have said they hope to have at least half of the eight baseball/ softball fields ready by the first spring baseball games.
Work on other repairs to the courthouse, administrative offices and Bryan County Jail are continuing, officials said.
Most of the work is being paid for by the county’s insurance policy through the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia because damage caused by the EF4 tornado did guidelines for the county to be called a disaster area. Also Tuesday, the county appointed Richmond Hill businessman Kevin Bowes to the Planning and Zoning Commission from a pool of 20 applicants. Bowes will replace Boyce Young, whose term expired. He did not want to stay on the board. Stacy Watson was reappointed to the board.
