A five-car accident Thursday afternoon on I-95 in Richmond Hill sent four
victims to the hospital, one with serious injuries, according to Georgia State
Patrol Trooper Dan Chernich.
The accident occurred shortly after 4 p.m. near exit 87 in the southbound lane on 95.
Chernich said in a phone interview Friday that congestion at the exit caused vehicles traveling in the right lane to slow down, and four of the five vehicles were following too closely, causing a chain reaction in which vehicles collided.
Two of the vehicles were tractor trailers and the other three were passenger vehicles, Chernich said.
The names of the injured or those involved in the accident were not available.
The victims were taken to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. Four of the drivers were cited for following too closely.
