BCSO blotter: Living room fire, identity theft, road rage

From the Bryan County Sheriff ’s Office reports:

October 24: Deputies respond to a structure fire at a residence reported by a neighbor who did not know if anyone was home. The living room was on fire and deputies knocked down the door after no response. The Fire Department arrived shortly after.

October 24: Man reports identity theft; he stated that had gone and applied for unemployment and was made aware that his social security number was already in use in New Jersey but was unsure when it was put in use. The man said that he had never lived or visited New Jersey.

October 24: Woman reports that a man in an unmarked, white UPS-style van had stopped her, asked for her phone number and where she lived.

The complainant told him to go away and he drove away. The complainant then started to walk back home where the offender followed her, took off his work shirt that had a black shirt under it and asked if she was married.

She told him to go away again, and the man left, and then she called 911.

The deputy spoke to the offender, who advised me that he was lost due to his navigation not working correctly and that he was just asking for directions from the complainant.

October 25: A road rage incident between two ex-coworkers on Hwy 144 occurred.

October 25: Vehicle stopped for going 89 MPH in a posted 70 MPH zone. The driver did not have a driver’s license on him; after providing his name and date of birth, the officer found an active arrest warrant out of Richmond County, Georgia.

The charge was Failure to Appear for various traffic violations, including driving without a license. The driver was sent to the Bryan County Jail. The arrest warrant from Richmond County was not executed due to extradition restrictions.

October 26: A white truck was parked in the right-turn lane on Highway 17; was found to have been abandoned.

October 26: Driver arrested for DUI (less safe, alcohol).

October 26: An argument erupts between a couple over reheated leftovers.

October 26: Driver arrested for DUI (alcohol), and was also charged with not having a driver’s license and improper display of tag; while the officers were administering the state breath test, the driver in question urinated on himself.

October 26: Woman reports various domestic disturbances involving her husband.

October 26: Deputies respond to reports of a man who was causing a disturbance at church. According to the church’s pastor, the suspect walked inside the church and began screaming and cursing at members of his congregation. The suspect was asked to leave multiple times but refused and continued the behavior until the pastor said he was going to dial 911.

October 27: Deputies were dispatched to a residence for reports of harassment; a woman reports that another woman has previously trespassed on her residence but was now outside sitting in her vehicle just at the end of her property line, blasting loud music. The complainant advised that the trespasser was looking for her son but didn’t want to come onto her property. The complainant also advised that she didn’t want her to get in trouble but just wanted the harassment to stop.

October 27: Complainant reports that he was standing on GA-144 taking pictures of the trees on the front of his driveway when a man approached him and began to threaten him. The complainant stated that they have had issues in the past and that he is currently in the process of a civil suit against him. Contact was then made with the suspect who advised that he observed the complainant walking off of his property and then confronted him as he was concerned for his wife’s safety. The man in question stated that when he attempted to make contact with the complainant, that he began recording and wouldn’t speak with him.
