Sixteen students from Richmond Hill High School and three from Richmond Hill Middle School attended the All-State Chorus Event held Feb. 14-16 in Athens.

RHMS students who participated were Jersey Josefik, Joseph Kim and Jolie Claidio. RHHS students who participated were Manny Vasquez, Zach Andersen, Micah Mondt, CJ Feaster, Timothy Renfrow, Maddux Kilmede, Savannah Legg, Nikita Rodriguez, Lexi Schieler, Emma Schieler, Meghan Krull, Jessica Mikrut, Mercy Mondt, Sydney Strickland, Jenna Pierre-Louis and Grace Dell.

To participate in allstate chorus, students passed two auditions. The first audition included a prepared solo; major, minor and chromatic scales; and sight reading.Thousands of students from across the state participated in the first audition and only about 5 percent qualified to go on to the second audition, according to Jamie Hillen, chorus director for RHHS. For the second audition, the students were given five to seven pieces of challenging chorus music that they had to learn on their own, and then sing by themselves for two judges who listened for any mistakes. After passing both auditions, they were able to participate in one of six all state chorus performing groups, two middle school and four high school.

They rehearsed in the Classic Center in Athens for three days and then had a concert on Saturday afternoon.

“This was a great accomplishment for our choral students at Richmond Hill High School and Middle School,” said Hillen. “This was most high school students we have ever had in a given year.”
