Video game tournament at Rocky's
Weekly FMWR briefing for Nov. 11-17

Rocky’s Warrior Zone will host a two-night gaming tournament that will feature PlayStation 4 demonstrations from 8-midnight Thursday and Xbox One from 8-midnight Nov. 21.

Gamers play for prizes. Food and drinks will be on sale. Watch the action on multiple screens, with the finals on the giant screen.

Open to ID cardholders and guests, 18 and older.

Wildlife photos

Stewart/Hunter amateur photographers with military ID cards are invited to submit wildlife photos for the Wildlife Photo Contest.

Submissions will be accepted until Dec. 31 at the Pass and Permit Office. No pet photos, please.

Fees are $15 (18 and older), $10 (16-17) and $5 (15 and younger). Age groups with fewer than five entries will receive certificates instead of cash prizes.

Saints vs. Falcons

Be in the stands with a BOSS group when New Orleans clashes with Atlanta in one of the NFL season’s best division rivalries Nov. 21 in the Georgia Dome.

The group will stay at the Castleberry Inn and Suites in downtown Atlanta. Game time is 8:25 p.m. The cost is $141 for transportation, hotel and the game. Registration will close on Nov. 19.

Free golf clinic

Learn golf at a free “Golf 4 Life” clinic at Hunter Golf Course Nov. 23 from 9-10 a.m. It's one of a series that cover a new topic each time. Beginners can learn the basics, while novices improve their game. There is a priority sign-up for soldiers. For details, call 315-9115.

 

Fitness program  

Improve your health signing up for the Stewart/Hunter Civilian Fitness Program. There is no charge.

Applications are available online at http://www.stewartmwr.com/ or http://www.huntermwr.com/. Click on sports gyms and aquatics/Newman or Tominac Fitness Center and download your packet. Applications must be turned into your directorate training coordinator by Nov. 29.

Sessions begin Jan. 13 and continue into July. For information call 767-3031.

 

Scuba diving

Become a certified scuba diver and dive for two days with BOSS for $375.

The price includes everything needed for the course, including gear for the duration. Transportation also is provided.

Classroom and pool training will be on Fort Stewart. Open water dives will take place in Florida. Classes begin on Dec. 6. Registration ends Nov. 22. Participants must be 16 or older. Register at Stewart or Hunter Leisure Travel office.

Managed hunt

Registration is under way for soldiers and retirees for a managed hunt Jan. 4 on Fort Stewart.

Register at a Pass and Permit Offices by Dec. 19. Participants will be chosen by lottery. The cost is $10 per person, if selected.

Youth sports

Fort Stewart Youth Sports winter registration runs to Dec. 6.

For 5- to 6-year-old basketball players, the fee is $20. Basketball (ages 5-18) costs $40. Basketball cheerleading (6-13) is $40. Wrestling (6-18) is $45.

Also, coaches are needed. Those interested can call Youth Sports at 767-9270. Background checks are required for all coaches.

 

Babysitting course

Teens can become certified babysitters in a SKIES CYSitters Teenage Babysitter Course from 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Jan. 2 and 3.

The course is free and will be at SKIES Unlimited at 6571 Davis Avenue.

Youth will learn basic child care skills and get certified in first aid and CPR. Both days are required to be certified.

Bingo on Hunter

Reduced tickets are available through Nov. 25 for the Mega Mega Super Bingo noon-midnight Dec. 7 at Hunter Bingo, 135 Duncan Drive.

Players will have a chance to win up to $60,000. There is a $10,000 guaranteed coverall.

Turkey Egg Hunt

Turkeys that won’t be on Thanksgiving tables have left candy-filled eggs at Cypress Creek Adventure Golf for a Turkey Egg Hunt at 10 a.m. Nov. 25.

Families can get a discount dinner and bowling from noon-7 p.m. Nov. 24 at Stewart Bowling Center.
