More to Veterans Day than ceremonies

In addition to the area ceremonies and a parade in downtown Hinesville for Veterans Day Friday, FMWR is organizing activities.
A CYSS trip for youth to have lunch with disabled veterans at the VA Center in Dublin is planned. Youth in fifth through 12th grade can register through Wednesday at either Stewart or Hunter's Parent Central Services offices. The trip is free, however there is a cancelation fee if you register, but don't attend.

Veterans Day Salute at Corkan
Corkan Family Fun Center will show its respect for all veterans, young and old, with one free game or admission to any activity at the center from noon until 7 p.m. Friday. For more information, call 767-4273.

Moonlite Bowling at Stewart Lanes
Moonlite Bowling returns Saturday to Stewart Lanes. Enjoy late-night bowling, food and fun. It's open until 1 a.m. The cost is $3 per game per person, and $2 shoe rental. For more information, call 767-4273.

American Favorites on Thunder Run Menu
German dishes, among four Internationally Inspired Cuisine Night offerings, are on the menu Wednesday at Club Stewart's Thunder Run restaurant.
Next week, Nov. 16, American favorites also are on the rotating menu.
Service is every Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at Thunder Run. The cost is $9.95 per adult and half-price for children ages 5-10. There is no charge for children 4 and under.

Storytime at George P. Hays Library
Storytime, 4 p.m. on Wednesdays, is a special time for kids up to 12 years old in the Children's Room at George P. Hays Library.
This week, Thanksgiving is the theme for stories and crafts.
On Nov. 16 Storytime participants will celebrate puppets, with stories and puppet play.
Nov. 30 is Celebrate Native American Heritage day. Children will hear stories and enjoy other activities to celebrate.

Emerald Princess Casino Boat Trip
Register by Nov. 16 for the Leisure Travel trip aboard the Emerald Princess II Casino ship. The cruise departs at 9 a.m. from Brunswick. The cost is $15 for soldiers and $20 for all others.

Turkey Trot Fun Run
The Turkey Trot Fun Run, a 5K or 1.5 mile run/walk geared toward families, will be on Perimeter Road on Hunter Army Airfield starting at 10 a.m. Nov. 19. The event is free.
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. that day. The run begin at the intersection with Stephen Douglas Street. A timer at the finish line will show runner how they did.

Turkey Bowl at Hunter Lanes

Turkey Egg Hunt at Cypress Creek
Not all the turkeys will be gobbled up on Thanksgiving Day, and those that escape will leave eggs in the Adventure Golf facility.
Children ages 0-5 years are invited to help find the eggs in the annual Turkey Egg Hunt starting at 10 a.m. Nov. 28. There's no charge. The hunt will end when all eggs have been found. For more information, call 767-4273.

Sign-up for Hunter Skeet/Trap Event
Registration has begun for Hunter Army Airfield's quarterly Skeet/Trap Shoot, scheduled for 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Dec. 3 at the Hunter Skeet/Trap range, off South Perimeter Road.
The cost is $25 for skeet or trap (50 birds); or $40 for skeet and trap (100 birds). Lunch is included. Sign-ups will be accepted on the day of the event, beginning at 9 a.m.
Safety briefing and flight set-up will begin at 9:45 a.m. Two fields will be used for skeet and one for trap, and flights will be fired every 45 minutes starting at 10 a.m. Prizes will be awarded after the shoot, including winners and door prizes. Participants must be present to win.
The competition will include:
Skeet division (50 birds) - expert, intermediate, novice, youth and ladies.
Trap - one division (50 birds), with all skill levels combined.
Skeet and Trap - one division (100 birds), all skill levels combined.
