Holbrook Christmas nights this weekend

Holbrook Pond Recreation Area will glow with Christmas lights and decorations, and buzz with activities for young and old alike during special holiday nights from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The event includes holiday scenes that light up the campground trail for 15- to 20-minute hayrides, roasting marshmallows and making s’mores, time for kids to share their Christmas wishes and have photos taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus, the MWR Kiddie Train and pony rides for children.

Plus, the FRG’s Kringle Market will have holiday gifts and treats for sale, cash only. Costumed characters will be there for the children.

The cost is $10 per vehicle both nights.

If you miss the special nights with the activities, your family can ride through the Holbrook area free to see the decorations from 6-9 p.m. until Dec. 25.

 

Thunder Run hours

Thunder Run restaurant at Club Stewart no longer serves lunch on Mondays. It still serves from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. For more information, call 767-4717.

 

Bowl with Santa

You’re invited to bowl with Santa at Marne Bowling Center from 1-4 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free. There will be $1 bowling games for kids, and gifts. Bring your camera to have a photo made with Santa. For more information, call 767-4866.

 

Storytime with Santa

Children (ages 4-12) are invited to hear stories, make crafts, meet and take a picture with Santa from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Dec. 16 at George P. Hays Library. There is no charge. For more information, call 767-2828.

 

Southern Fried Carol

Join MWR Community Theatre for an evening of entertainment as they present "Eb Scrooge: A Southern Fried Carol" Dec. 17-19 in Thunder Run at Club Stewart. Dinner (optional) is at 5:30 p.m. and curtain call is 6:30. Individual tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Family tickets are $30 in advance, $40 at the door. Dinner costs extra.

Disney tickets

Walt Disney World Military Salute 2016 tickets become available Jan. 3 at Stewart/Hunter Leisure Travel offices. They’ll be available until Dec. 19, 2016.

The price for a four-day military ticket with the park hopper option for up to five family members or friends is $196 each. There are other options.

Active and retired U.S. military members are eligible, but asked to check blackout dates before planning vacations.

Hours for the Stewart office (767-2841) in PX Furniture Mall Complex, are 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday. Hours for the Hunter office (315-3674) in Hunter PX, are 9:30.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

 

Cruise next fall

Register by Jan. 12 for a seven-day Western Bahamas cruise out of Port Canaveral. Cost is $547.74 per person (inside rooms), $637.74 (ocean views), and $807.74 (balcony). First deposit $25 per person, non-refundable due by Jan. 12. Second deposit of $250 due June 1 and final payment due Aug. 12.

Winery trip

Visit the Meinhardt Vineyards and Winery in Statesboro with Leisure Travel at 3 p.m. Jan. 30 for a tour and tasting. Adults only. The cost is $25 per person. Smokey Mountains

Register by Jan. 25 for a Leisure Travel trip to Gatlinburg, Tenn, for skiing, snowboarding, tubing and ice skating at Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort. Cost of $450 for 1-4 persons includes hotel and transportation. Additional $50 charge for fifth person. Price does not cover ski and snowboard rentals. Military discounts are given.
