Weekly FMWR briefing for Feb. 18-24

The Cardboard Boat Regatta at Hunter is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Tominac Fitness Center’s indoor pool.

Crews use cardboard and duct tape to build a boat that they hope will make it the length of the pool with a two-person crew.

Trophy will be award for the best looking boat, the best time and for the boat that sinks the fastest, "Titanic award." There are three categories: Children (16 and older), Family (an adult and child, 16 or younger) and Open (crew older than 16).

There’s no charge.  

Teams are asked to register by Friday at the center, but entries will be accepted until the race. For more information, call 315-5078.

 

Skeet and trap shoot

Skeet and trap enthusiasts have two opportunities this month at the Fort Stewart Skeet & Trap Range in the Holbrook Pond Recreation Area.

Register at Stewart Pass & Permit at Holbrook rental office for the White Bird Shoot and Marne Muster. The shoot/muster is scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday at therange. Shoot white birds ($8 per 25 birds) for a chance to win cash.

Two days, beginning at 9 a.m., the range will host a 50 Bird Shoot. Divisions are Expert, Novice, Youth and Ladies, and Open Trap (not handicapped).

The cost, $25 per person (50 birds skeet or trap) or $40 fee (100 birds skeet/trap), includes lunch and door prizes.

Cash prizes will be based on number of entries.

Registration at Hunter will be accepted at Hunter Pass and Permit and Equipment Rental.

Dinner and bowling

Families are invited to a discount night of dinner and bowling from 4-8 on Feb. 24 at Stewart Lanes. For $30, a family of five receives 10 games of bowling, five shoe rentals and dinner.

Register by March 1 for a BOSS camping trip to Coffee County State Park March 8-10. Enjoy camping, fishing, hiking and swimming. The cost is $15 per person.

Company level soccer

Companies interested in playing soccer to prove who is the best on Fort Stewart should submit a memo to the Bennett's Sports Office before March 1 or call the Sports Office at 767-8238.

Play is scheduled to begin March 4, with games at 6, 7 and 8 p.m.

 

Sapelo Island trip

Register by Feb. 27 for a Leisure Travel trip to historic Sapelo Island, departing at 7 a.m. March 9.

Tour plantation homes, see the Reynolds Mansion and the lighthouse, and enjoy a hot catered lunch on the beach.

The cost is $50 per adult, $40 per child 7-12 and $10 per child 6 and younger.

Shamrock Family Fun Run

Join fellow runners or just walk the 5K or 1.5-mile course along North Perimeter Road in Hunter’s Shamrock Family Fun Run at 10 a.m. March 2.

The first 100 participants (12 or older) who sign up and complete the run will get a free T-shirt. Medals will be awarded for kids (under age 12).

Free registration is under way. Late registration can be completed 9:30 a.m. at the starting point.

The run isn’t competitive, but a clock show your time.

Long Range Shooting at Stewart  

Soldiers, retirees, Army civilians and civilian guests can sight in large caliber weapons from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. March 3 at Red Cloud Range Complex-Echo (off Highway 119 North). The cost is $10 per two-hour block/person.

No pistols or shotguns allowed. Targets will be at 100 to 1,000 meters.

GC Golf Scramble

The Hunter Garrison Commander's 4-person Golf Scramble will begin with at 1 p.m. March 8 at Hunter Golf Club. Register your team by March 6. The $40 per person cost includes greens and cart fees, range balls and light lunch.
