Get out there and do something new

Happy New Year and welcome to January 2011. It is “out with the old and in with the new” with a new year, a new Congress and maybe even a New Year’s resolution or two.
Statistics show that 40 percent to 45 percent of American adults make one or more resolutions, but only 64 percent of these resolutions last a month and only 46 percent last six months. They also say “change is inevitable” and also “change is good” but not everyone embraces change.
Change requires a commitment and a desire for something new – to look beyond today and past tomorrow and dream. One man we honor this month is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. King had that dream and desire for change. If only he had lived longer to see what would happen with his dream.
So don’t give up on your own dreams for change or adventure. Step forward and set your goals and show your strengths. After the hectic pace of December, January is much more laid back and calm as reflected by the number of local events listed below.

You can also follow the 3rd Infantry Division on Facebook and Twitter. If you are one who adheres to “out with the old,” be sure to recycle. If it is paper, plastic or cans, place it in the proper recycle containers on Fort Stewart or in the Hinesville area. Your efforts will help the environment. If it is your Christmas tree, send it to the chipper. If you have clothes, toys and other items, donate them to the local Goodwill, Manna House or to a local church. Your donated items can support a number of families in need, due to the hard economic times we are facing.
Also remember to always think “safety first.” Safety is your mission. We want to see you through a winter full of fun and adventure.
