Weekly FMWR briefing for Jan. 7-13

If you are looking to get fit, the Aerobic-Thon & Health Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Newman Fitness Center may be for you.

The Aerobic-Thon samples various aerobic styles taught by certified instructors with different fitness backgrounds. Styles will include kick-boxing, step, zumba, line dancing and pilates.

The event also will feature fitness assessments, body fat measurement, nutritional information, President’s Challenge registration and health screenings.

Soldiers, retirees, family members and civilians are invited. It is free. Call 767-3031 for more information.

The Aerobic-Thon & Health Fair will be on Hunter from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Jan. 26 in Tominac Fitness Center.

 

Golf 4 Life

Golf 4 Life clinics at Hunter Golf Club are scheduled for 9-10 a.m. Saturday.

The free clinic is an opportunity to practice and fine tune your game, or for beginners to learn. The clinic covers all areas of golf and are open to the public. Participants are encouraged to bring friends.

NFL at Rocky’s

Weekends in January will be filled with NFL playoffs at Rocky’s Zone, where there’s no cover charge and not a bad seat in the house.

Every Saturday and Sunday, the giant screen and other televisions throughout Rocky’s will be filled with the action, as the NFL’s best battle to play in SuperBowl XLVII on Feb. 3.

Doors open at noon and remain open until 10 p.m. Drink specials will be offered.

Rocky’s also is planning for the SuperBowl. Enter a drawing for a spot in the VIP viewing area. Doors open at noon and the day will include door prizes, a Madden NFL tournament, a spades tournament and drink specials.

Girlfriends bouldering

Ladies, reinvigorate yourselves with a brisk climb Jan. 18 from 4-9 p.m. at Corkan Family Fun Center. The cost is $3 per person. For more information, call 767-4273.

 

Ladies on the Links

Register by Jan. 18 for the Ladies on the Links 3 clinics from 9-10:30 a.m. Jan. 19 and Jan. 26 at Hunter Golf Club.

8 for 8 Bowling

An Eight for Eight Bowling League is open for kids (ages 4-12) from 10 a.m.-noon Saturdays, starting Jan.19 at Stewart Lanes. Children bowl two games per week and at the end of the program get a free bowling ball.

The $8 per week cost covers shoe rental, instruction, equipment, one-year membership to USBC Basic Youth with card and emblems. For details, call 767-4273.

 

 

Dinner and bowling

Stewart Lanes will have a Family Night Dinner and Bowling from 4-8 p.m. Jan. 27. The $30 price gets your family of five 10-total games, five shoe rentals and dinner. For more information, call 767-4273.

 

Taylors Creek driving range

Golfers now can practice on the driving range at Taylors Creek Golf Course on Fort Stewart even if the pro shop is not open.

Driving range e-keys are now available for discounted range ball packages that will save customers up to 30 percent off regular prices. With the e-keys, you no longer need to come to the pro shop. Now you may go straight to the range and use your e-key to dispense range balls from a machine.

Storytime every Tuesday

Military Child Education Coalition staff members present a program for children up to age 12 every Tuesday during January at 9:30 a.m. at George P. Hays Library on Fort Stewart. Kids hear stories and enjoy crafts. There’s no charge. For more information, call 767-2828.
