Climb the walls for prizes

The annual Extreme Wall Climbing Challenge began Wednesday at Corkan Family Fun Center. Winners will be crowned in three categories: adult man and woman and child, 8-18). Winners receive one year free climbing room admission.

The challenge is to climb all routes available. Cost is $5 per hour. Contest continues until winners master all routes.

Fitness instructors

You can make a difference in a child’s life and earn volunteer hours by becoming a certified fitness instructor at Fort Stewart’s Youth Sports and Fitness Center.

Areas of expertise needed include aerobics, pilates, kick boxing and zumba. Pupils’ ages range from 8-18.

Roller skating

Celebrate the birth of roller skating at Corkan Family Fun Center from noon-8 p.m. Saturday.

In 1863, James Plimpton, a businessman in Massachusetts, invented the first roller skate that allowed people to skate curves and turn. Corkan is celebrating with $3 per person rates.

Bistro nights

Beginning in late January, Club Stewart will serve four-course dinners every Friday from 5-9 p.m.

The cost will be $10.95 for adults and $5.95 for children 10 and younger for salad bar, chef's choice of appetizer, entree and dessert.

Winery trip

Visit the Meinhardt Vineyards and Winery near Statesboro with Leisure Travel on Jan. 11 for a tour, tasting and dinner. Participants must be 21 or older. The cost is $40 per person.

Range shooting

Soldiers, retirees, Army civilians and guests can sight-in large caliber weapons Jan. 11 from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at Red Cloud Range Complex-Echo.

Bring your rifles or muzzle loaders of any caliber. Targets are at 100 to 1,000 meters. The cost is $10 per two-hour block/person. Register at the Pass and Permit Office or onsite.

8 for 8 bowling

An 8 for 8 bowling league at Stewart Bowling Center is open to everyone who wants to learn to bowl.

Participants bowl two games between 10 a.m.-noon on Saturdays, starting Jan. 11. At the end of program on March 1, bowlers get their own bowling balls.

Shotgun orientation

A Youth First Steps Shotgun Orientation Class to introduce firearms safety, handling and shooting skills, will be 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Jan. 11 at Holbrook Pond Recreation Area.

Classroom training will be conducted from 8 to noon. Range time will be from 1-3 p.m. Shotguns, ammo and training material will be provided. Participants may bring their own gun.

The cost is $30 per person. The maximum class size is 15. It is open to ages 10-16.

Health fair

Set your 2014 fitness goals during a free Aerobic-Thon and Health Fair from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Jan. 11 at Newman Fitness Center.

Sample classes in kick-boxing, step, zumba, line-dancing, pilates and more.

The fair features fitness assessments, nutritional information and screenings. Plus, you can sign up for the 10-pound Challenge to get rid of any weight you gained over the holidays.

Ladies on Links

Want to learn golf? A free Ladies on the Links clinic from 9-11 a.m. Jan. 11 covers aspects of the game, from rules to mechanics.

Gambling cruise

For a day of fun, sail with Leisure Travel aboard the Emerald Princess II casino ship out of Brunswick Jan. 18. Deadline to sign up is Jan. 15.

NBA and bands

Travel with BOSS to Atlanta to watch the Hawks square off against the San Antonio Spurs in NBA action Jan. 24. Then, watch the 12thannual Honda Battle of the Bands on Jan. 25.

The cost is $190 per person. Tickets are limited, and registration ends on Jan. 17. Sign up at Stewart in the PX Furniture Mall or Hunter Leisure Travel office.

Learn golf quickly at a free “Golf 4 Life” clinic at Hunter Golf Course Jan. 25 from 9-10 a.m.
