Circus and carnival coming to Stewart
Weekly FMWR briefing for Sept. 22-28

Military families’ kids (15 and younger) are invited to a fishing event from 7-10 a.m. Saturday at Halstrom Lake on Hunter. Participants can register at the site.

Permit and state fishing license fees will be waived and there is no charge.

There will be a limit of five catfish per child. Prizes and free refreshments will be provided.

A limited amount of bait and poles to borrow will be available.

Dinner and bowling

Families can get discounts on dinner and bowling from noon-7 p.m. Sunday at Stewart Bowling Center.

For $30, your family of five gets two games of bowling per person, shoe rental and dinner of Bowlers Club Basket with fries or onion rings and refillable drink.

Circus coming

Advance tickets go on sale Oct. 1 for the "World's Largest Circus Under the Big Top," coming to Fort Stewart.

Cole Bros. Circus will be at on Donovan Field for shows at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 29 and 30.

See traditional circus acts, clowns, elephants, and Bengal tigers.

Advance ticket sales will be at FMWR, Stewart Bowling Center and Stewart/Hunter Leisure Travel Offices. Pricing: $21 adults, $25 adult reserved seat, $28 VIP adult, $16 child, $20 child reserved and $23 VIP child.

8-for-8 bowling

Eight-for-8 Bowling League at Stewart Bowling Center is open for kids (ages 3-16) from 6-8 p.m. Thursdays, starting Oct. 2.

Children bowl two games per week and get a free bowling ball at the end of the program. Cost of $8 per week covers shoe rental, instructional fees, equipment, one-year membership to USBC and award emblems.

Bistro Night

Bistro Night, on each month’s first Friday, features Oktoberfest-themed cuisine from 5-8 p.m. Oct. 3 at Club Stewart, Thunder Run.

Start with a 20-plus item salad bar, then the chef's selection of appetizers, an entrée and a dessert. Soft beverages included. Bar service available. Cost is $12.95 per adult and $6.95 for children ages 10 and under.

Garage sale

Ready to get your space organized and clutter free? 

The Great FMWR Post-Wide Housing Yard Sale, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Oct. 4, is an opportunity to get rid of unwanted items, and make a few dollars.

Register at Fort Stewart Sports Office or Tominac Fitness Center at Hunter to have your sale on a map that will be online. There is no charge.

Only post-housing residents can sell, but everyone, including civilians, can shop.

Golf clinic

A free, co-ed Link Up to Golf Clinic will be from 10 a.m.-noon Oct. 4 at Taylors Creek Golf Course. Participants are asked to register prior to the clinic.

Fall carnival

A four-day, pay-as-you-go carnival is coming to Fort Stewart Oct. 9-12.

It will be at Walker Field and feature adult and children’s rides, concessions and games.

It will be open 6-10 p.m. Oct. 9; 6-11 p.m. Oct. 10; noon-11 p.m. Oct. 11, and 1-11 p.m. Oct. 12.

Ride prices will range from 3-4 tickets. Carnival-goers can save by buying tickets in quantity or arm bands for unlimited rides for the night.

GC's golf scramble

Lt. Col. Will Bowman invites to the Garrison Commander’s Golf Scramble Oct. 10 at Hunter Golf Course. Bring a four-person team to challenge the garrison team. Play begins at 9 a.m.

The $35 cost includes tournament fee, golf cart, driving range balls and prizes. Players are asked to register by Oct. 8.

Float trip

Enjoy a leisurely paddle down a river from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 11. Participants are asked to register by Oct. 9.

There will be lifeguards on the trip. Bring your lunch for a picnic, and don’t forget your camera. Youth under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Paddlers must be at least 12.

Sesame Street

Sesame Street and the USO bring fuzzy and friendly Muppets to Newman Fitness Center for shows at 6 p.m. on Oct. 21 and Oct. 22.

Military families are invited. The show features Katie, a military kid on Sesame Street who is moving.

Body building

Early registration is under way for The Rock Body Building and Figure Contest Nov. 1 at Woodruff Theater on Fort Stewart.

Weigh-in will be at 8 a.m., prejudging at10 and finals at 6:30 p.m.

The cost to register until Oct. 17 is $25, then $35. There is an additional crossover fee of $15. Sign up at Newman Fitness Center. 

Three awards will be presented in seven divisions.

Halloween horror trip  

Share the scare with Leisure Travel and Universal Orlando Oct. 10-12. You'll interact with cannibals, creepy clowns, evil dolls, huge scare zones and more.

Register by Oct. 1. Cost is $325 for 1-4 people per room. The price includes transportation and the stay at Best Western Orlando Gateway, with vouchers for breakfasts. Tickets or regular, no-scare daily tickets are for sale at Stewart/Hunter Leisure Travel offices.

Patrons will leave Stewart early Oct. 10 and return Oct. 12.

Crossfit challenge

Registration is under way for the CrossFit Fort Stewart Warrior Challenge Oct. 25 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at Caro Fitness Center. Sign-up closes Oct. 22.

Contestants in eight divisions must complete three high-intensity workouts.

There are eight age and gender divisions. Soldiers, family members and Army civilians are invited to compete.
