Join the fun at the Cardboard Boat Regatta at Tominac Fitness Center pool on Hunter at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. There’s no charge.

Each cardboard boat will race one length of the pool with a two-person crew. The three competition categories are kids, adults, and adults verses kids. A prize will also be awarded for the best-looking boat.

"Walking Dead" tour

Register by Saturday to take “The Walking Dead” tour in Atlanta March 7.

Visit the hospital where it all started. Go inside the goat farm and see firsthand where the Vatis camped.

Post-wide garage sale

Registration begins March 2 for the Great FMWR Post-Wide Housing Garage Sale on April 25 at Fort Stewart and Hunter.

There is no charge to sell. Registration ensures your site is placed on a map for shoppers.

Only post-housing residents are eligible to sell, but everyone, including civilians, can shop.

Shamrock Family Run

Run or walk the 5K or 1.5-mile Shamrock Family Fun Run North Perimeter Road on Hunter, starting at 10 a.m. March 7.

The first 100 participants (12 and older) to sign up who complete the run will get free T-shirts.

Registration is free and can be completed up until 9:30 a.m. on the day of the run.

The run isn’t competitive, but times will be clocked.

Powerlifting Challenge

The Powerlifting and Bench Press Challenge will be March 14 at Newman Fitness Center. Registration is continuing.

Contestants must be at least 16 and will be placed into one of 11 weight classes (male and female).

Awards will be presented to the top three pressers and lifters. Each paying participant gets a T-shirt.

Registration costs $20 per competitor through Saturday, then goes up $5. Weigh-in is 8:30 a.m., briefing at 9:30 and the contest at 10.

Zoo trip

Visit the Jacksonville Zoo March 14 with a tour organized by Leisure Travel. Register by March 12. The cost of $25 for adults and $20 for kids includes transportation and admission.

Offshore fishing

Register until March 15 for a day of offshore fishing out of Jekyll Island on March 21. The $135 per-person cost of $135 includes bait, tackle and transportation. Special BOSS price of $70 per single soldier. Participants must be 12 or older. Keep what you catch if in season and within limits. Vintage Hitchcock

Enjoy a three-course buffet and live adaptations by MWR Community Theater of three early Alfred Hitchcock films March 20 and 21. The stories come to life in the style of a 1940s radio broadcast. Dinner begins at 6 and shows begin at 7 both evenings at Club Stewart. The cost is $25 per person in advance until March 19, and $30 at the door. Golf tune-up

Purchase a large bucket of range balls and get a 10-minute tune-up of your golf swing between 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on March 21 and 28 at Hunter Golf Course. There’s no charge. For more information, call 315-9115.

 

Bass tournament

The catch-and-release Marne Trail Bass Tournament, will begin at 6:30 a.m. March 21 at Pineview Lake on Fort Stewart.

Cash prizes are $250 for first-place (total weight, five-fish maximum per person) and $100 for the largest bass. Door prizes will be awarded after weigh-in, which begins at 11 a.m.

Stewart/Hunter permit holders can fish from the bank or launch a bass boat (trolling motors only). No live bait will be permitted. Boat rentals will be available at Holbrook Equipment Center to Military ID Cardholders who hold a boat safety certificate.

Registration costs $20 until Friday for soldiers, retirees and family members and all youth 15 and younger, and $30 for the civilians. The fee goes up $5 March 1-20 and another $5 on the day of the tournament.

Hog hunt

Hunters who would like to participate in a managed hog hunt in Delta Complex on Fort Stewart on March 28 should register at the Stewart or Hunter Pass and Permit office by March 19.

Gold Star Family members, Purple Heart recipients and WTB soldiers will get invitations. The hunt is also open to soldiers and retirees.

The 40 slots will be filled by drawing March 19. The cost for those selected is $10 per person. For more information, call 767-4316.

 

Suns vs Hawks

See the Phoenix Suns and Atlanta Hawks clash at Phillips Arena in Atlanta April 7. Cost is $30 for tickets only, or $80 for tickets and transportation on a motorcoach. Last day to sign up for bus trip is March 2.
