'Rock’ Powerlifting & Bench Press Competition will be Saturday in the 4thIBCT Fitness Center. Weigh-in is at 8:30 a.m., briefing at 9:30 and lifting at 10:15.
Awards will be presented to top lifters in various weight classes, using the Schwartz-Malone Power Lifting formula.

Operation Rising Star
Round one of the “Operation Rising Star” — the Army’s equivalent of “American Idol” — will begin at 7 p.m. Sept. 19 at Rocky’s Warrior Zone.
And, while contestants do their best, a Hunter/Stewart unit or FRG will take the first step toward a “Spirit Award” of $100 to $300.
Contestants must be 18 or older and either on active duty, family, retiree or DoD civilian.
The top three singers will win prizes ranging from $100 to $500. Round two will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 26 and round three at 7 p.m. on Oct. 3.
Judges will pick Hunter/Stewart’s top winner from performances at the start of Oktoberfest at 4 p.m. Oct. 12 at Club Stewart.
Audience vote at semi-finals and finals will count for half of winner’s score.
The “Spirit Award” will go to the unit or FRG with the best support at all four competitions, regardless of contestant participation. The $100 to $300 prize will be deposited in the unit/FRG fund.

Family Carnival, featuring rides and fun for the whole family, is coming to Fort Stewart's Walker Field Sept. 19-22.
Children can enjoy The Train, Mini-Himalaya, motorcycle, helicopters, mini-coaster and chair swing. The big rides range from a ferris wheel to roller coaster.
Families can buy ride tickets in quantity. Also, arm band tickets cost $25 per night per person for unlimited rides. Food and games are individually priced.
Hours are 6-10 p.m. Sept. 19, 6-11 p.m. Sept. 20, noon-11 p.m. Sept. 21 and 1-11 p.m. Sept. 22.

Military ID cardholders are invited to a 50 Bird Skeet Shoot at 9 a.m. on Sept. 21 at the Stewart Skeet Range.
The shoot will include expert, intermediate, novice and ladies/youth divisions. The first-place prize is $75. Additional prizes will be based on number of entries in each category.
Registration until Sept. 15 is $25 per person. It goes up $10 after that. The cost includes lunch.

Blues & BBQ
The 10thannual Blues & BBQ Festival, featuring music, food, fun and free kids activities, will be in downtown Hinesville from 2-11:30 p.m. on Sept. 21.
The event is hosted by the Hinesville Area Arts Council and supported by Fort Stewart Family and MWR.
Music starts at 4:30 p.m. featuring “Soul Gravy,” followed by headliner “Swamp Cabbage” and “3rd Class Citizens.”
Judges pick the best barbecued pork, chicken and ribs. Plus, there’s a people’s choice best barbecue category.

Compete for prizes in the Catch and Release Bass Tournament at 6:30 a.m. Sept. 28 at Metz Pond at Fort Stewart.
Prizes will be awarded in adult and youth categories, based on combined weight of up to five bass.
You can fish from the bank or a bass boat (trolling motors only). Live bait prohibited. Boat rentals available at Holbrook Equipment Center to Military ID cardholders with a boat safety card.

Children ages 15 and under can catch up to five catfish, and maybe a hobby, at a Kids Fishing Event from 7-10 a.m. Sept. 28 at the Hallstrom Lake Recreation Area on Hunter.

The Great MWR Post-Wide Housing Garage Sale will be 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 5 on Stewart and Hunter. Registration is under way for those who want their sale noted on a map for customers.
There is no charge to sell. Only residents of post housing are eligible to sell, but everyone, including civilians, is invited to shop.
