Army birthday celebrations next week
Weekly FMWR briefing for June 6

A Kids Fishing Event, planned as a way to introduce youth to the life-long sport of fishing, will be held from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at Pond 30, Training Area Echo 1, off Highway144 West.
Kids, younger than 16, will have an opportunity to catch 10 catfish from the heavily stocked pond, compete in a casting competition, watch a fish-cleaning demonstration, get their face painted, win door prizes, visit informational booths and get their fish cleaned.
The event is free. It is sponsored by DFMWR's Outdoor Recreation, DPW Fisheries Branch, DES Game Wardens and Liberty County BASS Club.
Activities will be scheduled every 30 minutes from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Door prize drawings will be held every 30 minutes starting at 7:15 a.m. DPW Fish and Wildlife will staff a fish-cleaning station from 8-11 a.m.
The event is in conjunction with National Fishing and Boating Week. For more information, call 435-8061.

Skeet Tournament at Hunter
The Hunter Skeet Tournament, with check-in at 9 a.m. and competition in the 50-bird skeet or trap shoot at 10 a.m., will be Saturday at the Hunter Army Airfield Skeet Range. The range is located at building 8250 off North Perimeter Road.
Lunch will be provided and prizes awarded.
The event is open to all Military ID cardholders and civilians. Entry fee is $25 for either event or $40 for both skeet and trap.

"Raggedy Ann and Andy Day"

Leonard-Neal CDC Grand Opening
A ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the grand opening of the Child Development Center, building 148 at 131 Leonard Neal Street on Hunter Army Airfield, will be held at 9:30 a.m. June 13.
The full-service facility will provide 144 additional child care spaces for family members ages 0-5 years of the Hunter community. It contains 13,153 square feet of space and was built at a cost of $4.3 million.
Soldiers, family members and members of the local community are invited.

Summer Reading Program Storytime
Summer Reading Program Storytime is under way at George P. Hays Library, building 411. On June 15 from 4-5 p.m. and every Wednesday during June and July, children up to age 12 will hear medieval fairy tales and make related crafts.

Marne Book Club For Adults
Marne Book Club (for adults 18 and over) meets at 1 p.m. June 16 at George P. Hays Library, building 411. 2011-2012 FS DoDEA School Day Schedule Changes
Fort Stewart DoDEA Schools is looking at changing class schedules for the 2011-12 school year. Letters have been sent to parents about the change.
The proposal is to provide teachers and staff a consistent time for professional development and collaboration. Students will be dismissed at 1:30 p.m. each Thursday.

Teen Star Search at Stewart's Youth Center
Fort Stewart teens in grades 6-12 will display their talents from 1-2:30 p.m. June 18 at the Youth Center in Bryan Village during the Teen Star Search competition. Judges will pick the best from performances that will include dancing, singing, rapping, spoken word, poetry or instrumental.
Top prize is $175. Second-place prize is $75 and the third-place is $50. The talent show is a Child, Youth and School Services event. For details, call 912-767-4491.

Father's Day Brunch at Stewart
Treat Dad on his special day with a Father's Day Brunch at Club Stewart from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. June 19.

GC Golf Scramble at Stewart
The Garrison Commander's 4-Person Golf Scramble at Taylors Creek Golf Course will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. June 24.
