The annual Independence Day "Worth Fighting For" is next weekend and kicks off with a golf scramble at 9 a.m. Friday at Taylors Creek.
The Salute to the Nation continues Saturday at Cottrell Field from 6-7 p.m.
On July 4, the real fun begins. The Corkan Rec Area is open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., and is free all day. There will be interactive games, shows, and rides at Newman Field from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., as well as free food for soldiers and their families from 11:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.
Then, on Donovan Field, from 6 to 10:30 p.m., there will be a concert featuring The Zac Brown Band with special guest Fantasia. There will also be fireworks. For the concert, gates open at 5 p.m.

Bryan Village Youth Center summer trips
Five summer trips are being planned by the Child, Youth and School Services' Youth Center for July. Three trips are for sixth-12th graders and two for youth in grades nine-12.

Trips planned are:
July 6, to Pooler Fun Park in Pooler, for sixth-12th-graders. Leave at 9 a.m. and return at 7 p.m. Cost is $20. Registration ends July 1.
July 13, to Dave & Buster's in Jacksonville, for sixth-12th-graders. Depart 10 a.m. and return at 8 p.m. Cost is $30. Register until July 11.
July 20, to Splash in the Boro Family Waterpark and Aquatic Center in Statesboro, for sixth-12th-graders. Depart at 9 a.m. and return at 7 p.m. Cost is $20. Register through July 18.
July 21, to Valdosta State University in Valdosta, for youth in grades nine-12. Leave at 11 a.m., return at 10 p.m. There is no charge. Register through July 19.
July 29, to Carowinds, N.C., for youth in grades ninth-12th. Depart at 7 a.m. and return at 11 p.m. The cost is $35. Register through July 27.

Girlfriend Day-Adventure Golf
Girls, bring your friends and enjoy miniature golf at Cypress Creek Adventure Golf from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on July 8. The cost is $1 per game per person. Call 767-4273 for more information.

Back to School Fair Models Wanted
Students in grades 1st-12th are invited to model school uniforms and youth fashions from the AAFES PX in a Back-to-School Fashion Show on July 27. The show will begin at 11:30 a.m. and is part of a "Back to School Fair," featuring information, fashion and prizes, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Club Stewart.
Youth models will get discounts from the PX on clothing. Spaces are limited and the last day to sign up is July 9. To sign up, call CYSS EDGE Director Darnell Braggs at 767-1341.
Parents will be able to talk with area school representatives and learn more about family and youth-related services on Fort Stewart at the fair. Agencies that want to be a part of the fair are asked to call the School Liaison Office at 767-6533 by Friday.
The free fair also will include a number of prizes and giveaways, as well as children's activities.

Teddy Bear Picnic Day at Corkan
Help celebrate Teddy Bear Picnic Day from dawn to dusk July 10 at the new Corkan Plaza (adjacent to building 449) under the majestic oak. There's no charge. It's a great area to meet and have lunch. Or, reserve one of the adjacent pavilions for picnics.

Summer Reading Program at Hays Library
The Midsummer Knight's Read 2011 Summer Reading Program continues through July at the George P. Hays Library, building 411. The closing session is scheduled July 27.
Children up to age 12 hear Medieval Fairytales and make related crafts. Sessions are scheduled at 4 p.m. on July 13 and July 20, as well as on July 27.

Hunter GC Golf Scramble
The Hunter Garrison Commander's 4-person Golf Scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. July 15 at Hunter Golf Club. The scramble will accept the first 25 four-person teams. Register your team by July 13.
The cost is $35 for Taylors Creek and Hunter Golf Club members, active duty, retirees and Army civilians; $45 for civilian guests.

Missoula Children's Theater auditions at Stewart
Auditions for the Missoula Children's Theatre production of "The Little Mermaid" musical will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 18 at School Age Services.
About 75 youth between the ages of 7 and 18 will have an opportunity to learn about and experience drama, public speaking and acting through the production.
Rehearsals will continue from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 19-22 at SAS.
"The Little Mermaid" performance, free and open to the public, will be at 3 p.m. July 23 at Woodruff Theater.

CYSS Youth sports registration
Registration for tackle football/cheerleading and fall soccer begins Friday and ends Aug 15, or when all slots are filled.
Registration is open to all CYSS members. Football is open to ages 7-12 (age as of Aug. 1), cheerleading is open to ages 6-13 (age as of Dec. 31) and soccer is open to ages 4-13 (age as of Aug. 1).

Liberty County Schools Military Registration Day
Liberty County Schools will have a Military Registration Day from 8 a.m. to noon and 1-3 p.m. July 26 at their specific school for families needing to register students for the 2011-12 school year.
To help ease the military families' transition into the system, all Liberty County Schools will register students, give school and district information, give class assignments and create schedules, as well as answer academic and school-related questions for enrolling students.
For registration, families will need to bring; Social Security card; birth certificate; Georgia Certificate of Immunization (Form 3231), Georgia Certificate of Ear, Eye, and Dental Screening (Form 3300); two proofs of residence, proof of enrollment and attendance (report card/school transcript) in an accredited school, and departing school address.

Pass & Permit Wildlife Photo Contest
Registration is under way for a wildlife photo contest to be Nov. 16 at the Fort Stewart Pass & Permit Office. Registration will close Nov. 3.
The theme is wildlife. Please, no photos of pets. Photo dimensions are four by six inches or larger and there is no limit to number entered.
The contest is open to amateur photographers and entry fees are $5 (ages 2-15) per photo and $10 (ages 16 and older) per photo.
