On Oct. 11, seven members of the Pembroke Garden Club traveled to St. Simons Island for the 53rd Oleander District Meeting of the Garden Club of Georgia, of which the Pembroke Garden Club is a member.
Joyce Fowler, Jean Faught, Reta Willoughby, Diane Stewart, Deborah Kirshner, Pat Taylor and Phylis Covington traveled to the Epworth By the Sea Center where the meeting was held.
A business meeting, lunch and a program on “The Magic of Flowers” were all part of the day.
The club received a special honor for one of its members. Reta Willoughby was chosen as Outstanding Garden Club Member from those nominated from among the 62 clubs in the district.
The award is given for a member who has demonstrated outstanding service to garden-related activities.
Willoughby was selected for her diligent leadership and service during her eight years as president of the Pembroke Garden Club. She received a certificate and an engraved trophy.
Willoughby has also been serving as an Oleander District board member for 2011-12 on the Aquatic and Ecosystems Committee.
