Quote of the Week

“The perception of homelessness is the stereotypical ‘man under a bridge,’ but families with children make up 40 percent of the people in this country who experience homelessness. It is difficult for people to believe that there are children in Bryan County Schools who go home to a car or to a motel room shared with two or three other people.”

— Jeanne Wallace, Family Promise of Bryan County and Richmond Hill United Methodist Church director of music ministries

Sharpie Tie Dye Class — Turn an ordinary white T-shirt into a funky, colorful, one-of-a-kind wearable piece of art during a Sharpie Tie Dye class for children ages 7-15 from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, at Let’s Create, 10471 Ford Ave. in Richmond Hill. The technique uses Sharpie markers and rubbing alcohol, which eliminates waiting a day for it to dry and messy twisting and wringing that are part of traditional tie dyeing. You have much more control over the patterns you make, and the colors are said to be “super vibrant.” Participants will be able to wear their new shirt home that night. Let’s Create supplies one white T-shirt per student. Students may bring an additional shirt or pair of Keds sneakers for a $5 supply charge. Cost is $15 for the class. Go to letscre8.co/classes for more information.
