Ephesians 1:4-5 says, “Even as [in His love] He chose us [actually picked us out for Himself as His own] in Christ before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy (consecrated and set apart for Him) and blameless in His sight, even above reproach, before Him in love.”
The Holy Spirit is telling us that God chose us in Him. He picked us out for Himself as His own, in Christ, before the creation of the world. The Holy Spirit sets forth all that God did for mankind. All that we need to do is to receive and believe in His Son, Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 2:1-4 says, “And you [He made alive], when you were dead (slain) by [your] trespasses and sins. In which at one time you walked [habitually]. You were following the course and fashion of this world [were under the sway of the tendency of this present age], following the prince of the power of the air. [You were obedient to and under the control of] the [demon] spirit that still constantly works in the sons of disobedience [the careless, the rebellious, and the unbelieving, who go against the purposes of God]. Among these we as well as you once lived and conducted ourselves in the passions of our flesh [our behavior governed by our corrupt and sensual nature], obeying the impulses of the flesh and the thoughts of the mind [our cravings dictated by our senses and our dark imaginings]. We were then by nature children of [God’s] wrath and heirs of [His] indignation, like the rest of mankind. But God — so rich is He in His mercy! Because of and in order to satisfy the great and wonderful and intense love with which He loved us.”
We were dead in trespasses and sin, disobedient and we followed the ways of the devil, who is the prince of the power of the air. We were ruled by Satan because Jesus Christ was not the ruler of our lives. Our minds were blinded by Satan to the truth of God.
Ephesians 2:5 says, “Even when we were dead (slain) by [our own] shortcomings and trespasses, He made us alive together in fellowship and in union with Christ; [He gave us the very life of Christ Himself, the same new life with which He quickened Him, for] it is by grace (His favor and mercy which you did not deserve) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ’s salvation).”
God gave us the very Life of Christ before we were even born again. Now we can live this life in and through Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus is the living evidence and reality of the true and living God. We must daily be made into the living evidence and reality of who Jesus is by the power of the Holy Spirit. This is how the world will see and know who Jesus is.
We must seek and run after Jesus with our whole mind, heart, soul and body. Then we will find Him and live and reign in Him. For as Jesus is, so are we now.
1 John 4:17 says, “In this [union and communion with Him] love is brought to completion and attains perfection with us, that we may have confidence for the day of judgment [with assurance and boldness to face Him], because as He is, so are we in this world.”
