Spring is a reminder of new life

As I sit in my office, I look out across the front yard of the church and see the signs of spring. It seems like overnight everything became so green. It’s like the Lord above waved his arm across the earth and changed the landscape from just color to high definition.
Spring reminds me of things that appeared dead coming to life.
The same thing happens all the time in a spiritual sense; people who are considered dead find new life in Christ. Second Corinthians 5:17 tells us “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old life is gone; the new life has begun.” Easter is a perfect time for us to be reminded of new life with the resurrection of Jesus. The old life is full of ungodliness and hopelessness, while the new life is full of changed life and hope. The old life is full of guilt, while the new life is filled with peace. The old life merely is existing, while the new life offers purpose.
We never get to choose the weather or choose when spring will begin, but we can choose when our new life in Christ can begin. We don’t get to choose which plants will live and grow, but through our choice, we can have the assurance of eternal life. The good news is that we can know that God will give us new life no matter who we are or what we have done.
