Members of Africa on Fire and the Coastal Georgia School of Missions will sponsor a round table from 9 a.m.-noon Friday, Feb. 1, at the Temple of Praise Church Ministries, 406C S. Main St. in Hinesville.
“The round table is an ethnically diverse network of leaders and mission mobilizers from various churches and Christian organizations,” said Dr. Deloris S. Mitchell, executive director for Africa on Fire. “The purpose of the round table is to share ideas with one another and to be a resource to others so that more African-Americans are mobilized for global missions.”
Mitchell said the specific purpose of this meeting is to discuss how a local church can keep global missions before the entire congregation year-round.
“The overall purpose is to transform lives, individuals and communities by equipping believers to enlarge their territory by expanding and advancing God’s kingdom,” she said.
The round table will be led by Pastor Terre Haas of Operation Mobilization USA in Tyrone and Brian Johnson of the Cooperative Mission Network of the African Dispersion. Haas and Johnson are planning to bring several people with them.
Haas joined Operation Mobilization in 2005 as director of pastoral ministries. Previously, he was senior pastor of Cornerstone Bible Church in Fayetteville for 24 years.
“Round-table participants are a rich resource available to churches and ministries for teaching, preaching, training, facilitating trips and providing materials so that more African-Americans are mobilized to join God in His global mission,” Mitchell said. “We meet several times during the year at different venues, primarily in the greater Atlanta area.
“We draw participants from Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, North Carolina and Tennessee, and often have missionaries join us from different countries around the world,” Mitchell added. “A group of us from Hinesville have traveled to the round table several times and have asked them if they would consider bringing the meeting to Southeast Georgia. We are blessed to have them come to Liberty County.”
