An excerpt from Acts 8:26-35 says “And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship, Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet.”
In this Bible setting, there are many lessons for us to learn. First, every disciple is a preacher. The days are full of opportunities, but they are passing by like this chariot. Souls are in doubt and in darkness. They need someone to lead them to Jesus.
If Christ is going to reach the world and reclaim souls from the power of Satan, it will not be done in the church only, but on the streets, in the markets and in places of business. Wherever the children of God find themselves, those places must become pulpits from which we preach the news of Jesus Christ. If the multitudes are to be won from sin, then truck drivers, nurses, soldiers, farmers and everyone else must learn how to lead souls to Christ. We must be in tune to the Holy Spirit — the true preacher.
“Then the Spirit said unto Philip, go near, and join thyself to this chariot.” — Acts: 8:29
Jesus said the Holy Spirit would convince men of sin, of righteousness and of judgment. Early preachers could rely on nothing else to save souls than the Holy Ghost. That is why souls were added to the church daily. There were days when thousands were saved. The spirit of God still dwells in hearts that are open to receive Him. That spirit grants divine guidance to those who trust Him. The first requirement in saving souls is the presence of the Holy Spirit in our hearts.
Philip was directed to the man passing by in the chariot. “Then the spirit said unto Philip, go near, and join thyself to this chariot. And Philip ran thither to him …”
When you stand still, it is only a moment before someone passing by is gone and out of sight. The great majority of life’s opportunities are to be had only by those who are willing to run after them, to climb up and take possession of them while the wheels roll on.
Passing chariots have great possibilities.
Many people put a low value on the souls of men and women. We must realize the value of a soul. In our streets and shops and factories are precious souls for whom Christ died.
The chariots are passing by — let’s not delay. It is time to reach them.
