Don't fear a life of transformation

I recently finished a book that indicated Christians are no different from non-Christians except that Christians have the hope of eternal life.
It shared the idea that if someone had an addiction or bad habit, anyone offering deliverance was offering a false hope. It gave the impression that Christians are filthy, rotten, dirty sinners, and we might as well get used to it because there is nothing to living a victorious life in Christ.
This type of teaching might be alright if it wasn’t for the fact that the New Testament doesn’t support this idea. The Apostle Paul makes it very clear in his letters to the churches of his time that there is a big difference between those who have found Christ and those who haven’t.
He says things like, “you used to walk in darkness now you walk in the light.” He continually compares the way the new believers used to live to how they are living now in regards to sin.
One example is found in the book of Ephesians, Chapter 4, where it says, “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self... and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”
The truth is that Christians are not perfect, but we have a desire to be and we are a changed people by the power of God working in our lives. One of the reasons I feel keeps some people from accepting Christ is that they don’t see a need – they don’t see any hope that will make a real difference in their lives.
If you are one of these people, I want to tell you there is hope and a reality that you can live a new and changed life that gives you power to overcome any habit or addiction or bondage to any sin.
