Stephen M. Jordan, M.D., has been designated a Certified Medical Director in Long Term Care by the American Medical Directors Certification Program (AMDCP). Dr. Jordan, who specializes in internal medicine and is board certified in his field, is one of only 2,200 U.S. physicians and 63 in Georgia to have earned this certification. He has been in private practice since 1975 and serves patients in Bryan and surrounding counties.
"Dr. Jordan is a great asset to senior care medicine in Southeast Georgia, especially in the long term care setting," said Perry Kemp, executive director of the Georgia Medical Directors Association. "He is involved in all aspects of his patients’ needs to achieve their best possible health and quality of life outcomes."
According to program officials, the certified medical directors program enhances medical direction throughout the long-term care continuum (including nursing homes, hospice and assisted living) and reinforces the leadership role of the medical direction providing quality care. The program recognizes the dual nature of clinical and management roles and includes comprehensive courses covering both areas.
Federal regulations and changes in the healthcare environment have established the role of the medical director as central to the delivery of quality care, according to AMDCP information. Certified medical director designation is viewed as an indicator of professional competence to long-term care providers, government and other quality assurance agencies, consumers and the public, the organization says.
