Mill Creek Baptist 141st anniversary celebration begiins tonight

Dolphins

The Dolphin Project will be hosting a party to commemorate 20 years of dolphin research on July 18 at J.F. Gregory Park in Richmond Hill. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. and feature low country boil, Bar-B-que, music, dancing and a silent auction of items from across the state.

New pastor

Members of the Pembroke United Methodist Church will honor their new pastor, Rev. Larry Sauls and his family with a reception on Sunday, July 19, from 3-5 p.m. in the church social hall. Everyone is cordially invited to attend.

 

Mill Creek Baptist

Mill Creek Baptist Church will be having its 141st Church anniversary; 7:30 p.m. nightly July 15-17.

Other events:

July 21-23, the youth department will be having its annual Vocational Bible Study, 6-8 p.m. The public is welcome to attend and have a blessed time and fun.

July 25-26, the youth department will be having its annual Family & Friends Picnic and program.

The picnic will be July 25 at 11:30 a.m. The public is invited. There will be games for all ages. On July 26 at 3 p.m. the Family & Friends program will be presented.

 

DFCS

The new Bryan County DFCS in Pembroke is located at 133 West DuBois St., across from the Health Department. Please continue to call 653-2805 in reference to concerns that relate to Child Protective Services, foster care, adoptions, resource development, TANF, food stamps, Medicaid and child care.

Customer calls will be routed to the appropriate staff. Customers in the Richmond Hill area should continue to contact that office for the same issues.

Luncheon

The Richmond Hill Recreation Association book club has several upcoming events, which take place at 2 p.m. at Hit The Books. Summer Camps

The Richmond Hill Recreation Department’s first annual Summer Camp Extravaganza continues through July 31. The camp will be at J.F. Gregory Park in Richmond Hill. The cost is $85 a week. Registration is taking place now. For more information call 756-4075.

 

Special needs

Bryan County residents who qualify as having "special needs" are urged to register with the Bryan County Health Department so that they will receive assistance during an emergency such as a hurricane evacuation.

Residents must apply to be on the Special Needs Registry and can do so by picking up a form from the Bryan County Health Department in Pembroke (430 Ledford Street) or the Bryan County Health Department in Richmond Hill (9665 Ford Avenue). The form can also be downloaded from the Coastal Health District website by going to www.gachd.org, clicking on the "Emergency Preparedness" link on the homepage and then clicking on "Residents with Special Needs" at the bottom of the page.

Special needs is defined as that population that may require specialized assistance for meeting daily needs; individuals that may require assistance during emergency situations; and individuals that may need specially trained health care providers, special facilities equipped to meet their needs, and specialized vehicles and equipment for transport.

People living in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and personal care homes are not eligible and must follow their facility’s emergency plan. For more information, call 653-4331 or 756-2611 or visit gachd.org.

 

Night Out

The City of Richmond and the Richmond Hill Police Department will participating in the 2009 National Night Out Aug. 4.

The event, which be held in J. F. Gregory Park will include:

- An inflatable castle for children.

- Ponies.

- A classic car and motorcycle show.

- A cake walk.

- Indent-a-child finger printing and DNA registration.

- A dunk-a-cop tank.

- Live music.

- Martial arts and dance presentations.

- Face painting and crafts.

- Free hot dogs and refreshments.

- Items raffled every 15 minutes.

Anyone interested in being part of the organization or operation of Richmond Hill’s National Night Out is encouraged to participate in a meeting at the Richmond Hill Police Department courtroom July 11 at 6:30 p.m.

Farm aid

The Georgia Congressional Delegation has announced that $2.42 million has been appropriated to aid South Georgia farmers in conserving agricultural irrigation water. Contract applications for the program will be accepted between Aug. 3-31. Applications and program information are available at the Soil and Water Conservation Commission offices in Statesboro (912-681-5241), or at USDA Natural Resource Conservation offices in South Georgia.
