The Bryan County Board of Health will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Bryan County Health Department conference room in Pembroke.

Parent/student workshop
The Military Child Education Coalition will host a “Back to School Basics” workshop for parents and students at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Dairy Queen in Richmond Hill.
The workshop will explore how parents can help improve their students’ school performance and offer tips and research-based approaches to how children learn and ways to help them best prepare. All materials provided are free of charge.

Citizen academy

The Bryan Emergency Services is accepting applications to the Citizen Emergency Services Academy.
The eight-week program will meet every Thursday evening from 7-10 p.m. through Oct. 31 at 5995 Highway 204 N. in Ellabell.
Each participant must be 18 years of age or older, a resident of Bryan County and in good physical condition.

Educator meeting

The Bryan-Evans Retired Educators Association will have its first meeting of the year at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 9 in the social hall of Pembroke United Methodist Church.
All retired educators are invited to join the group for a brunch social, followed by a general meeting and guest speaker James Twiggs.

College savings workshop
Parents and grandparents are invited to a “College — Getting from Here to There” dinner and seminar on 529 college savings plans at 6 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Richmond Hill City Center in J.F. Gregory Park.
Investments in a 529 plan will fluctuate in value with changes in market conditions and when sold may be worth more or less than the original investment.
The dinner is sponsored by Edward Jones financial adviser Laura Evans. Call 756-5113 to reserve place for the dinner and seminar.

Crabbing tournament
The Offshore Outlaws will host the fourth annual Kids’ Crabbing Tournament on Sept. 14 at Fort McAllister Marina. Registration is from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Weigh-in is from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Following the tournament, there will be a crab boil complete with waterslides, music and hermit crab races.
