Family picnic: A Labor Day family picnic is set for noon-4 p.m. Sunday in J.F. Gregory Park in Richmond Hill.
Activities are highlighted by dessert bake-off with cash prizes; entries must be submitted by 1 p.m. Other activities include a waterslide, a watermelon seed spitting contest and “candy in the haystack.” Food and live entertainment will be available.

Colonial demos
Fort Morris State Historic Site will hold Revolutionary War cannon demonstrations from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday.
Other Colonial skills will be presented. Fees are $3-$4.50. Military members with ID are admitted free.
Fort Morris is seven miles east of Interstate 95 exit 76 in Sunbury.

Holiday closing
The Bryan County Libraries at Pembroke and Richmond Hill will be closed on Monday for the Labor Day holiday.

Remembrance service
Pembroke Christian Church will host a 9/11 remembrance service, sponsored by the North Bryan County Ministerial Association, at 6 p.m. Sept. 9. The community is invited to bring a chair and enjoy an evening full of patriotic pride.

Back to School Splash
Faith Harvest Sanctuary will have its annual “Back to School Splash” from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 8 at the church at 1237 Bill Futch Road in Ellabell.
All ages are welcome. There will be inflatables, including “The Big Kahuna,” as well as a smaller water slide for younger children. There will also be hamburgers, hotdogs, chips and drinks.

Dolphins and Desserts
The Dolphin Project will host Dolphins and Desserts at 7 p.m. Sept. 15 in Stewart Hall at First Presbyterian Church at 520 Washington Ave. in Savannah.
The keynote speaker is Dr. Bill Savidge, who will talk about the importance of marshes, which offer protection from storms and serve as a nursery for coastal birds, amphibians and marine life, including our bottlenose dolphins.

BeachSweep
The Tybee BeachSweep will be from 7:30-10 a.m. Sept. 16.
Beach cleanup volunteers can meet at the North Beach Bar & Grill, 33 Meddin Drive on Tybee Island, for registration and materials. Gloves, bags, grabbers, data cards, pencils, water and light refreshments will be provided. Free parking will be available for all volunteers. Students should bring their community service forms.

Pet adoption
A weekend animal adoption event is set for Sept. 14-16, at PetSmart, 11132 Abercorn St. in Savannah.
PetSmart Charities and local animal-rescue organizations will have animals available for viewing and adoption. Hours for the event are 4-7 p.m. Sept. 14 and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sept. 15-16.
Admission is free. Each welfare agency sets its own adoption fees.
