Political forum: The North Bryan Chamber of Commerce will host a political forum Tuesday at the J. Dixie Harn Community Center, 91 Lanier St. in Pembroke. Networking will start at 6:30 p.m., with the forum beginning at 7 p.m. 
All local and statewide candidates have been invited. Each candidate has been asked for a one-page biography even if they are unable to attend.
All candidates in contested races will be given 3-5 minute time frames to speak about themselves and their platforms. Candidates will answer individual questions after the forum if time permits.

Living will program
Magnolia Manor on the Coast will host a dinner program on the importance of advanced planning in health care decisions at 6 p.m. Thursday at Magnolia Manor on Timber Trail Road in Richmond Hill.
The program, presented by Medical Infusions Technology, is based on “Five Wishes,” a popular living will that is easy to understand and helps start the conversation of care in times of serious illness.
Attendees will receive a copy of the publication and will watch a short video on how to complete a living will. The program and dinner are free.

Lantern tour
Fort McAllister will hold a candle lantern tour from 7-8 p.m. Oct. 20 at the state historic park in Richmond Hill.
Visitors will have the chance to tour the fort by candlelight and see Civil War re-enactors going through their nightly routines. Visitors who stray from the tour group just might be captured as a spy.
The cost is $6.50 for adults and $3.75 for children. No flashlights allowed.

Old-Time Barbecue
Ellabell United Methodist Church’s annual Old-Time Barbecue will be 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 20 at 3113 Highway 204 in Ellabell.
Menu includes: pork, chicken, potato salad, snap beans, stew, bread, extra sauce and tea.
The cost of each plate is $7, and cakes, pies, cookies and other home-cooked sweets will be for sale. There also will be a silent auction and yard sale.

Life Teen
St. Anne Catholic Church holds Life Teen Mass at 5:30 p.m. every first and third Sunday at 10550 Ford Ave. The next will be Oct. 21.
Life Teen is designed to deal with the issues facing today’s teenagers.

Spooktacular
Pembroke is gearing up for its annual Spooktacular celebration set for Oct. 27 in downtown Pembroke that will include new events this year.
The inaugural Spooktacular 5K will start at 8 a.m. Participants can register at www.active.com
Downtown shopping and the Spooktacular Scavenger Hunt will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the Whistlestop Farmers Market will be up and running from 4-7 p.m. in DuBois Square.
The fourth annual North Bryan Chamber of Commerce Pumpkin Carving Contest is a 5 p.m., with contest winners being announced at 6 p.m. Hayrides leaving from DuBois Square will be ongoing from 5-7 p.m, and a Spooktacular movie will be shown in the square at 7 p.m.

Poker Run
American Legion Post 164 will have a Poker Run fundraiser at 9 a.m. Oct. 27.
Sign in will be from 9-10 a.m. and the run will start at the post home on Highway 280 west of Pembroke, a half-mile past Harvey’s Grocery on the right. Donations will be $20, which includes lunch, one poker hand and door prizes.
The post meets at 7 p.m. every second Tuesday at the post home. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Yarn donations
Common Threads, a needle-work group at the Richmond Hill Public Library, is seeking donations of yarn.
Common Threads knit and crochet adult chemo hats, Afghan blankets and lap throws and nursery and children’s hats for local hospitals.
Some items are also available for free at the library. The group is in need of yarn to continue these projects.
Donations can be dropped off at the Richmond Hill Public Library on Ford Avenue anytime during regular business hours.
