Richmond Hill High School juniors and seniors will battle it out next week with ordinary household objects in a competition based on the NBC series “Minute to Win It.”
The event is at 7 p.m. Thursday in the high school gym.
The entry fee is $5, and ages 4 and under are free. All proceeds will benefit the Matthew Freeman Project: Pens and Paper for Peace. Donations of pens and paper will also be accepted at the door.

BCFC meeting
The Bryan County Community Enrichment Coaltion (BCFC) will hold its regular meeting at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Richmond Hill Police Department.
The agenda will include program updates and community event announcements.

Bureau meeting
Bryan County Farm Bureau will hold its annual meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the J. Dixie Harn Community Center in Pembroke
All Bryan County Farm Bureau members are welcome to attend.

CAC meeting

The Georgia Coastal Management Program’s Coastal Advisory Council’s 2010 fall meeting will be from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at the Coastal EMC in Midway.

Dolphin Project
Love dolphins? Want to help with dolphin research? Come to The Dolphin Project’s training workshop from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Solms Hall at Armstrong Atlantic State University on Abercorn Street in Savannah.
TDP is an all-volunteer, nonprofit research and education organization dedicated to the protection of wild estuarine Bottlenose dolphins and their environment for more than 21 years. The research area covers from Hilton Head, S.C., to the Georgia-Florida line.
Needed are skippers with boats, photographers with a minimum of 300mm lenses and team leaders to record the data. Other land-based volunteer opportunities are also available. No reservations are necessary. Membership fees are required to participate in research surveys.

Veterans program
The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 164 and Boy Scout Troop 357 will celebrate Veterans Day with an annual flag ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, in the park in downtown Pembroke.

Renewal services
New Beginnings Community Church will have spiritual renewal services at 7 p.m. Thursday, through Saturday and 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday.
The guest speaker will be Kenny Grant from Savannah.
The church is located at the entrance to Buckhead North on Hwy. 144. Nursery will be provided and everyone is welcome.

Darien festival
Come celebrate fall at the Darien Fall Fest from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Fall Fest activities simultaneously occur in historic downtown Darien, at nearby Ashantilly Center and at Fort King George Historic Site. Food and fun abound at this seasonal-themed event, which highlights coastal Georgia’s Scottish heritage, the cultural bounty, and maritime legacy.

Library closings
The Richmond Hill Public Library will be closed for a staff workshop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9. The library will open that day from 2 to 7 p.m.
The library will close for the Thanksgiving holiday at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, and will reopen at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29.

Food pantry

The Mobile Food Pantry will be at Gospel Truth Bible Clinic, 362 Wade Carter Rd., Ellabell from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10.
This food pantry is available for low-income, elderly, disabled or unemployed people, as well as those at risk.

Veterans observance
Richmond Hill will hold its annual Veterans Day Observance at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, in J.F. Gregory Park. Fort Stewart will provide the guest speaker, and light refreshments will follow.

Art exhibit
Arts on the Coast Association will have its Fall Art Exhibit and Artists’ Reception from Nov. 11-19 at the Richmond Hill City Center.
The opening reception will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, and the juried exhibit will feature current works by association members. There will be free refreshments and a cash bar, as well as a chance to win an artist print.
The exhibit will be on display between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. through Nov. 19. The exhibit is sponsored by the Wilderman Group, Leahy Art Gallery, Midway Gallery and Utrecht Art Supply.

BBQ fundraiser
The annual Smith Reunion Center Barbecue will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13.
Plates will sell for $6 each and will include pork, Brunswick stew, potato salad, bread and dessert.
Please come and join us for good food and good fellowship.

Church bazaar

The Richmond Hill United Methodist Church will have its annual Bar-B-Q, Bazaar and Silent Auction from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, at the church, 9050 Ford Ave. The free event will include hams, Boston butt, ribs chopped ham, potato salad, apples and more. There will also be entertainment, fellowship and a chance to do some holiday shopping at the bazaar, featuring handmade items, and a silent auction of donated items from merchants and individuals in Richmond Hill and the surrounding area.
Meal tickets and pre-orders of hams, Boston butts, whole racks of ribs, quarts of potato salad and apples are available for advanced purchase. Order forms can be found at rhumc.com and e-mailed to rhumc@coastalnow.net, faxed to 756-4610 or mailed to RHUMC at P.O. Box 1480, Richmond Hill, Ga. 31324. Order forms may also be dropped off at the church office.
Chopped ham will be available by the pound and barbecue sauce by the quart and gallon on the day of the auction.  All pre-orders must be picked up by 3 p.m. the day of the event.
