The Pembroke and Richmond Hill public libraries will accept donations  of food and toiletry items at a rate of $1 per can/bag/box in exchange for up to $5 in regular overdue fines through Feb. 22.  
Items will be given to local food pantries.

Stargazing party
Join Fort McAllister State Historic Park for a Valentines under Venus Stargazing Party from 7-8 p.m. Friday at the park off the Highway 144 Spur in Richmond Hill.
It will be a night beneath the moon and stars as visitors learn and solve the secrets of space with Donna Mullenax, a professor of astronomy and physics at Armstrong Atlantic State University.
Bring a blanket and a picnic dinner to eat under the stars. Alcohol is prohibited.
The cost is $5 for a ParkPass plus $7 for individual admission.

Asperger support
The Richmond Hill Asperger support group will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Richmond Hill Public Library.

Pembroke Garden Club
The Pembroke Garden Club will meet at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 20 at the Dixie Harn Community Center.
The club will take a trip to Claxton to visit and share the joy of flowers with the residents of Claxton Nursing Home. The meeting is open to everyone.

Dave Ramsey course
New Beginnings Community Church of Richmond Hill will have the Financial Peace University, offering “Generation Change” by Dave Ramsey, a study on financial management for teens, at 12:30 p.m. Feb. 23.
Students in seventh grade through college are welcome. The cost is $20.

Chili Cook-off
Pembroke’s sixth annual Chili Cook-off will be held from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Feb. 22 at the senior center in Pembroke.
There is no entry fee to enter the contest.
First place receives $100, second place receives $75 and third place receives $50. Spectator cost for chili, beverages, dessert and unlimited chili-tasting is $5. Music also will be provided.

Cars and Coffee
Cars and Coffee will be held from 9-11 a.m. March 1 at the Richmond Hill History Museum.
Attendees can bring an antique or collector car and swap stories, tips and ideas with fellow car enthusiasts. Admission is free.
Fresh gourmet coffee will be offered for 25 cents with a donation of $1 or more to the museum.
